Staff Development Manager

Willmar, MN - Full Time

The Staff Development Manager plays a critical role in working with the Staff Accountants and Interns within our General Services department by prioritizing workflow and encouraging their career growth trajectory. Our General Services (GS) Department encompasses our Staff Accountants and Interns who work across all service departments of our firm for approximately the first two years of their career here at Christianson.

The position is part of our management team and works closely with project coordinators to allocate and manage people resources. The right candidate enjoys finding solutions and takes pride in coaching teammates forward.

Examples of duties in leading General Services: approximately a 50/50 split

Scheduling and Priority Monitoring
    • Oversees weekly project shelves for Staff Accountants and Interns, ensuring optimal time utilization and alignment with departmental deadlines.
    • Ensures Staff Accountants are on track with their hour commitments and goals.
    • Works with project coordinators to align workloads and facilitate resource sharing across departments.
    • Attends meetings with project coordinators. 
    • Represents the GS team in all leadership meetings.
    • Reviews and adjusts key GS team production reports as needed.
    • Develops and maintains effective communication methods for team updates.

Management, Mentoring, and Advisement
    • Professionally guides and mentors staff in building career foundations.
    • Purposefully connects staff to a variety of technical training and project work, helping staff make informed decisions on their career focus.
    • Monitors learning paths and communicates updates to the leadership.
    • Ensures staff progress through and complete designated learning paths.
    • Cultivates an environment of flexibility and efficiency and leads by example.
    • Conducts monthly check-ins with each member of the team to discuss well-being and career growth.
    • Participates in performance reviews for GS.
    • Collaborates with HR/Recruiter on hiring and onboarding plans for GS.

Qualifications & Characteristics
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting preferred.
  • 3+ years of public accounting experience.
  • 2+ years of leadership experience.
  • CPA preferred.
  • Uses questions to gain understanding and to help others build their critical thinking skills.
  • Skilled in problem-solving, analysis, critical thinking, attention to detail, and self-direction.
  • Possesses above-average communication and presentation skills, with the ability to convey information clearly.
  • Talent for collaboration, inclusion, and leadership, rallying teams toward decision-making and setting the pace for completion.
  • Discipline to hold self and others to process and deadlines.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office including but not limited to Outlook, Excel, and Word
Other things we think you should know about the position
  • Location – on-site in our Willmar, MN office
  • Hours are normally Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. CST
  • This position will report to our Firm’s Chief Talent Officer (CTO)
